Glossy or Matte Lamination? See the Difference in Our Video Review
Often, photos of boxes on a screen do not fully convey how the box will look and feel in your hands. It is particularly difficult to showcase the surface of the packaging in photos, especially when it is laminated.
Here is a brief reminder of what it is: Lamination is a packaging finishing process where the offset-printed surface is covered with a protective plastic film. It not only protects the packaging from scratches or moisture but also provides its final aesthetic character.
To help you choose the right laminate for your product packaging, we have prepared a short video. In it, we demonstrate boxes with nearly identical designs so you can see how different surfaces react to light:
Key Things to Know When Choosing
Glossy Lamination:
- Gives the surface a mirror-like shine.
- Enhances color depth, making them appear richer and more vibrant.
- A practical choice – the surface is slicker and easier to clean. Fingerprints are less visible on this surface, making it more suitable for boxes that are opened and closed frequently.
Matte Lamination:
- Absorbs light and eliminates reflections.
- Provides the packaging with a "velvety" feel, a modern image, and a touch of solid luxury.
- Fingerprints and various scratches are more noticeable on dark matte colors.
Our Recommendation: If you are creating a Premium class product, matte lamination will provide subtlety and elegance. If you want the packaging to "shine" on the shelf and be as bright as possible, choose the glossy option.
